Choosing a university in Germany

Not just a university but a programme that fits you

We help you choose universities and programmes based on your education, language skills, budget, career goals and actual eligibility for admission.

Higher education system

One degree, different study formats

Germany has around 400 public and state-recognised higher education institutions. The type of institution influences the study format, but by itself does not determine the quality of your future programme.

University examples

Five well-known universities with very different profiles

This is not a ranking or a list of the “best” universities. These examples show how strongly institutions can differ in profile, size, international orientation and cost.

Our approach

How we build a university shortlist

A good shortlist does not start with the question “Which university is the most prestigious?” It starts with the programme, admission eligibility and your goals.

Already saved ten universities and not sure which ones to keep?

During a consultation, we review your shortlist, profile and budget and identify which options are genuinely worth pursuing.

A&B Study support

You receive a selection strategy, not just a list of names

A university shortlist becomes useful only when every institution is connected to a specific programme, requirements, budget and your goals.

We do not guarantee admission and do not call one university “perfect” for everyone. Our goal is to build a strong and realistic shortlist specifically for your profile.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before choosing

How do I know which university in Germany is best for me? +

Start with the specific programme rather than an overall ranking. Compare programme content, requirements, language, institution type, budget, city and your career goals.

Is a University of Applied Sciences worse than a traditional university? +

No. It is a different study format. Universities of Applied Sciences are more practice-oriented and often work closely with companies, while traditional universities usually provide a stronger theoretical and research foundation.

Is studying at every public university in Germany tuition-free? +

No. Many public universities do not charge general tuition fees, but semester contributions and important exceptions exist. For example, tuition fees apply to many non-EU students at the Technical University of Munich, and Baden-Württemberg has separate rules for international students.

Should I choose universities before checking my admission eligibility? +

It is better to check your educational pathway first. If your previous qualification does not provide access to the selected study level or programme, even a perfect university shortlist will not help.

Do you guarantee admission to the selected university? +

No. The university makes the admission decision. Our role is to identify suitable programmes, verify the requirements and organise the application process professionally.
